Apprentice Seal Engraver

Megan Rigby began her apprenticeship in 2018 with a two year college based training course at the British Academy of Jewellery while simultaneously learning ‘at the bench’ at engraving firm Rebus, in Hatton Garden, London.

Following the BAJ course, Megan continues to work at Rebus under the same Master, Emmet Smith, and is now focusing on seal engraving. Megan shows great aptitude for engraving already; winning Gold Award in the Junior Engravers section of the 2020 Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council Awards. Megan will gradually increase the volume of client commissions undertaken and by 2023 it is expected that she will be a full time professional engraver at Rebus. The Hand Engravers Association is hugely appreciative that the apprenticeship has been generously supported by the Sir John Cass’s Foundation, enabling hand engraving skills to be passed on to the next generation.
