Enameller, silversmith and jeweller.
Specialist in enamelled silverware and 18ct gold jewellery. Mainly makes to private commission. Pieces have included a wide spectrum of work from small beakers through to a harlequin set of six goblets and a pair of elaborate candelabra.
Fred studied in London at the Central School of Art, and then at Sir John Cass School of Art in the late 70s and early 80s. He set up his own workshop after leaving college, and started to develop a distinctive enamelling technique, which Fred describes as a cross between cloisonné and basse-taille – enamel on an engraved, carved, or etched surface.
Fred is three times winner of the Jacques Cartier Memorial Award, a Diamonds International Award and four times winner of the Goldsmiths’ Company Award. Examples of his work can be found in the Victoria & Albert Museum, The British Museum, and the collection of the Goldsmiths’ Company.
