Hand Engraver and Silversmith

Annabel Hood is a hand engraver originally from Bath now based in Edinburgh. After completing a Jewellery and Silversmithing BA from the University of Edinburgh in 2018 Annabel was awarded the Incorporation of Hammermen Award for training with master engraver Malcolm Appleby MBE.

During her BA Annabel won the 2016 London Assay Office Make Your Mark Awards with her London Leopard engraved beaker design. With no experience in engraving, she started with the Hand Engravers Association introduction to engraving course and which enabled her to bring her leopard beaker to life. Ever since Annabel has used hand engraving to adorn her silver and jewellery work, focusing on creating dramatic designs that reflect the light on the objects as they are worn or used; her most recent collection of work has been influenced by climate change and the dramatic images of melting glaciers in collaboration with Glaciologist Prof Peter Nienow. Annabel is now training with gun engraver Karen Wallace developing her skills to engrave on steel.
